Bring Your Scarves Camping

  • Scarves and Camping

  • When I thought about camping the first thing that came to mind was the rugged wilderness and minimal restroom facilities.  Scarves were the furthest thing from my mind.  However that has all changed.  I recently had a camping experience that changed my entire view of camping and these trendy fashion accessories.

I love camping and am used to “roughing” it in the woods.  But for some reason this last time I decided to pack a couple of my scarves with me.   To my delightful surprise my scarves turned out to be my favourite camping item and I will never head out into the woods without one again.

  • Scarves Keep You Warm

  • I was used to using my scarves for warmth and the same was true when camping.  It takes a while for the woods to warm up in the morning.  That sun has to makes its way through the canopy above.  And once the sun begins to set things cool off pretty fast.   My scarves were great to take that little chill out of the air.  A simple tie around my neck and I was ready to go.

  • Camping and Head Scarves

  • After a few days in the woods we all succumb to “camping hair”.  This is defined as a slightly unruly head of hair that doesn’t want to behave no matter how much you try.  For these situations my scarves became head scarves and worked perfectly.  They kept my hair out of my face and I looked stylish while doing it.  After all, you never know when you’ll have to run into the nearest town for some extra supplies and you want to look somewhat presentable.  Head scarves are also great for hiking when you want to keep your hair tied back.  When you don’t need them they are easily tied onto your day pack.

  • Scarves Provide Insect Protection

  • And let’s not forget those mosquitos.  There were a few occasions when the mosquitos came out and my scarf tied around my head and neck protected me from those annoying bites and irritating buzzing sounds. Nothing is more irritating than trying to have lunch with a swarm of hungry mosquitos and black flies.

    One more idea…

If you happen to forget your pillow, your scarf can also be folded up and used to support your head so that you get the restful sleep you need.   When you think about it the uses for your scarves are endless and to me they seem to be as important as duct tape when camping!

Enjoy your next outdoor adventure, and don’t forget to pack your scarves!
