  • There are many types of scarves for women and crocheting a hooded scarf can be a fun way to have a much needed item to keep you warm this winter. There are many different colors of yarn available and you can make several scarves to go with all of your different outfits. This is a fairly simple winter accessory to make and can be completed within a couple of hours. Hooded scarves are increasing in popularity and are great and keeping your ears and neck warm at the same time.

  • How to Make Your Own Hooded Scarf

  • The materials needed to begin are a heavy weight yarn, a crochet needle, a yarn needle as well as a pair of scissors and a marker.
Using a single crochet stitch you begin crocheting a very long rectangle. It should be between fourteen to eighteen inches wide as to cover your head when draped over it. The length should come down to wrap over the top of your head and cross around your neck. You will want to find a length that suits your needs as well as your comfort level.
After your rectangle is complete you will make the hooded shape. This is done by laying the scarf over the top of the head and figuring out where you would like it to sit while you are wearing it. Again this is situational and will be different for everyone. Grab a marker and mark both sides where the scarf meets your neck.
Taking a piece of the same colored yarn, use your yarn needle to sew the back of the hood. You will sew it to the top of where your head will be. Make several loops to avoid any unraveling. At this point you should have a unique scarf.
Your scarf can be dressed up by adding scalloped edging stitches at the end or by tying some yarn to create a fringed look.
