A Motorcycle Scarf for Men and Women

  • The motorcycle scarf

  • …has increased in popularity over the past few decades. Both men and women can appreciate their attractiveness, not to mention the usefulness that well chosen scarves can provide while out riding all day. While women might have more of a selection when shopping for a motorcycle scarf, men can still find some versatile and masculine scarves to choose from as well. The main thing to consider besides personal preference and style, of course, is the materials and sizes of your scarves.

For men, the typical motorcycle scarf

…in the past was nothing more than a cheap bandana that could be picked up at any truck stop along the way. The typical biker didn’t have a day job as a surgeon or attorney, and was most likely a part-time mechanic or student. Their motorcycle scarf not only served as a hat, helmet, and sun protector, but also as a mask to protect their mouths from flying bugs, and as a cloth to clean their greasy hands when they had to stop for a few minor repairs or maintenance. Times sure have changed. Now bikers most likely take their bikes to repair shops and don’t really have any idea on how to fix their investment. This means their scarves can now be a little nicer than the ones bikers wore in the past.

When shopping for a motorcycle scarf, consider the climate in which you will be riding your bike.  However, you’ll do wrong by purchasing the 100% silk scarf.  They’re warm, soft and look great!  Someone in south Florida, for example, would not want a wool or pashmina scarf. They would most likely need either a cotton or even a silk one. Cotton scarves breathe really well, and would be ideal for hot summer days, whereas silk scarves have a tighter weave and aren’t so good for sweaty conditions. Silk also needs to be dry cleaned and will sometimes retain water stains, depending upon the quality, if bikers should get caught in the rain. There are some great synthetic and even washable silk scarves available now that would be ideal for cooler days and especially nights. In cooler climates, a heavier motorcycle scarf would be ideal, especially in a larger square that can also be pulled down a bit to cover the ears and protect them from cool winds.

  • When choosing your motorcycle scarf

  • …be sure to try it out to make sure it is large enoughFor most people, 5 feet long (60″)  is usually long enough to wrap around your neck twice. Find a square and fold it into a triangle and place it upon your head. You need to make sure that the ends will be able to reach each other and be long enough to tie comfortably. Your motorcycle scarf should fit comfortable over your hair and under your helmet. There are a lot of specialty stores out there that also carry the scarves already pre-sewn into a scarf hat that certainly are more convenient, but do not offer the versatility to be worn in other ways. No matter which scarves you choose, you’ll surely love them.  Get your motorcycle scarves here: 100% silk motorcycle scarf
